Just before you eat a meal, drink another glass of water. It will help to fill up your stomach, which means that you will not feel the need to eat as much as you ordinarily do. If you find it hard to chug down a large glass of water, drink at least half of it and then continue to sip on it while you eat. You can even jazz up your plain glass of water and make it more appetizing by adding a splash of lemon or lime juice in it.
Eat slowly
When you eat too fast, you may not receive the signals that your body is full in time, and you will overeat. To help with this, use a smaller plate; it will initially assist you in controlling your portion size. From there, make a conscious effort to take little bites as you eat. This will significantly slow down the time that it takes you to finish your meal. You can do this in a few ways, but cutting your food into tiny pieces helps, as does using the smallest size fork available.
Keep track of your calories
You have probably heard this before, but it is true; if you want to lose weight, you cannot eat more calories than you typically burn in a day. While it depends a lot on your current weight, height and gender, an average person will need to keep their daily caloric intake around 1,500 calories to lose weight without exercise. Your activity level, which can be high even if you do not work out, may allow you to eat a bit more. Still, remember not to go overboard. You still need to eat at every meal, it is just important to select healthy options and not go overboard.
