Many people are motivated to lose weight for aesthetic reasons and while that is all well and good, the best reasons really pertain to health! When your health is in order, your life is too and when it's not, you're pretty much unable to accomplish anything. Here is your motivation to lose weight:
A healthy heart. Excess weight bears down on all of your internal organs, but is particularly dangerous to your heart. Fats and other damaging solids accumulate throughout your cardiovascular system, impeding heart function and quite literally threatening your life. Most heart disease and heart attacks are preventable with a healthier lifestyle, including but not limited to maintaining a reasonable body weight.
A longer and more active life. Studies repeatedly demonstrate the value of a healthy weight to longevity and being able to do more. Your motivation to lose weight should include how you are able to live life: Do you quickly become short-winded? Is keeping up around the house or with little ones exhausting? This can often be due to the fact that you're carrying around all that extra weight and if you think it's cumbersome now, just wait until your golden years. It will only get worse.
Reducing your risk for cancer and diabetes. Both diseases are becoming more prevalent in our society and if you need motivation to lose weight, talk to someone who has one of them. Diabetes is a difficult catch-22: losing weight controls the disease, but the disease makes losing weight excruciatingly difficult. Medical science is also making the connection between losing weight and lowering your risk of a number of cancers abundantly clear.
Having less pain in life. When you carry around a lot of excess weight, your joints bear the brunt of most of it. This means more aches and pains, even if you're not doing much of anything. Degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis can make life next to impossible with constant pain and when you lose weight, your joints are more capable of healing and staying functional. The less pain you experience, the more exercise you are apt to include in your day and that is a healthy cycle everyone should aim for.
Feeling happier in general. Ask any doctor and he will tell you that depression strikes those who are overweight much more often. If you don't have enough motivation to lose weight already, then how about your happiness? Since being overweight is such a threat to your whole body and being, it's going to cost you in every aspect of your physiology. So even if you can escape the health risks and diseases, degeneration of your joints and shortened lifestyle, you probably won't be happy!
No matter what motivation to lose weight you allow to dictate the necessary changes in your life, your entire life will begin improving in a number of ways as you successfully lose weight. From the inside out, you will look better, feel better and find life more gratifying. What are you waiting for?
